Support Workers
Our large team of specialist mentors, study skills tutors and practical support workers have the qualifications, skills and experience to support students with a broad range of needs, including:
Our staff have an in-depth understanding of the ways in which these challenges impact on students in a higher education context, awareness of the strengths that students can bring to their learning situations and skills to empower students to utilise these strengths to achieve their academic objectives.
A number of our mentors and tutors are dual trained and qualified and are therefore in the unique position of being able to support students with co-existing conditions and more complex needs. All our mentors and tutors working with DSA students are fully compliant with the former DSA-QAG Quality Assurance Framework requirements, are fully insured and appropriately trained in safeguarding and health and safety.

Directors
Katie Wood, Director of Student Support, Training & Consultancy
Katie is an equalities specialist with significant experience of working with organisations to help them deliver their equality and diversity agendas in relation to education and employment. She has worked collaboratively with colleagues across the higher education sector to design and deliver bespoke training, policy and guidance solutions to advance best practice in relation to staff and student equality. Katie is a qualified and practising specialist mentor and tutor so has a good understanding of the challenges faced by disabled students and first hand experience of meeting their needs. |
John Wood, Director of Finance, Business Development & Research
John has operational oversight of the management of Equality Focus’ services and the regular reporting of company data. John has an established background in business administration and a particular expertise in market research for both the public and private sectors. John also focuses on the development and enhancement of Equality Focus’ services and undertakes HE scoping and research work as part of the company’s consultancy offer. |
Senior Administrator and CRM Manager
Zoe Hughes works from Equality Focus' office in Hertfordshire to deliver a responsive and professional administrative support across Equality Focus’ operations. She deals with day-to-day student contact and management of our dedicated Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

Finance Administrator
Rachel Maynard works from Equality Focus' office in Hertfordshire and is responsible for receiving and processing all students’ timesheets from our payroll tutors and mentors.

Student Support Administrator
Helen White works from Equality Focus' office in Hertfordshire and oversees and supports the Study Support Assistants (SSA) and students who require study support. She is also responsible for processing the SSA timesheets each month.
